Google Teacher Academy!!!

Hello!
Again, I am not sure how many of you are actually reading this over the summer, but I am going to write anyway. I think I told some of my classes about a cool opportunity I was going to try for. I applied for the Google Teacher Academy in Colorado in August and I got in!!! This is a 12 hour class where Google people will teach 50 teachers how to use the Google tools in the classroom with students- yes, the real Google! Then, I will be sharing the knowledge with other teachers at our school to help them out. Very cool, right? I look forward to sharing pictures and cool stuff with you when school starts. If I won't have you again next year, stop by and I will share some pics and stories. Looking forward to our time together in August! Hope your summer is going well!!! Check out the map to see where I will be traveling for the Google Teacher Academy :)

Sheppard Games

I found a new math games site for those of you dedicated students looking to add a little math excitement to your summer! It can help you will many different skills. I would recommend getting the basic facts down pat first, then using the speed games to get faster at them. Here is the Sheppard Software Game Site.

Math Magician

Hello students,
I have missed you this week :) Hope the beginning of the summer is going very well. Remember: Practicing your math facts is a great thing to do over the summer, especially on a rainy day, like today. Math will be a ton easier over the years if you know your facts. I have found a site that drills you on your facts based on the ones you need so you can focus on certain fact families. I will try my best to keep new things posted over the summer for my diehard fans. I hope the summer continues to be awesome for you! Leave me a comment to say hi!

SET Game On-Line

This is the new game I introduced to the 6th graders today. This is the on-line version. The true version is a card game for 1 - several players. It is a great challenging game for families. Check it out at www.setgame.com or click the link below. There is a great on-line tutorial to teach the family how to play. It includes practice rounds to help you learn. This site does a puzzle-a-day contest. Check it out! I just learned about it from another teacher this weekend and now I am hooked!!! Logo from www.setgame.com.

Surface Area & Volume

This is a great site to help students visualize surface area and volume of 3D shapes. There is a practice section to allow kids to test their knowledge. It is important to break a figure apart into a net in order to find the surface area, find the area of each piece and add them all up. To find volume, we find out the amount of cubes are in the bottom layer and multiply it by the number of layers (or the height). The formula for volume of a rectangular prism is V= l x w x h. Fractions, Decimals & Percents

This is the site I used for my afterschool OAT Prep session today. If you would like to review how to compare and convert fractions, decimals and percents look at the 'factsheets'- they are very helpful. The game allows you to practice using what you learned and the quiz will let you find out how much you know. Try it out! Fraction/Decimal/Percent Practice

Are you a Math Millionaire?

This is a link to a Quia site that a teacher in Talawanda created. She made it for her students to do 5th grade Math OAT review. Instead of entering your name at the beginning, say 'Play this game!' Math Millionaire
