I think I told some of my classes about a cool opportunity I was going to try for. I applied for the Google Teacher Academy in Colorado in August and I got in!!! This is a 12 hour class where Google people will teach 50 teachers how to use the Google tools in the classroom with students- yes, the real Google! Then, I will be sharing the knowledge with other teachers at our school to help them out. Very cool, right? I look forward to sharing pictures and cool stuff with you when school starts. If I won't have you again next year, stop by and I will share some pics and stories. Looking forward to our time together in August! Hope your summer is going well!!! Check out the map to see where I will be traveling for the Google Teacher Academy :)

Sheppard Games

I found a new math games site for those of you dedicated students looking to add a little math excitement to your summer! Remember: Practicing your math facts is a great thing to do over the summer, especially on a rainy day, like today. Math will be a ton easier over the years if you know your facts. I have found a site that drills you on your facts based on the ones you need so you can focus on certain fact families. I will try my best to keep new things posted over the summer for my diehard fans. I hope the summer continues to be awesome for you! This is the on-line version. The true version is a card game for 1 - several players. It is a great challenging game for families. Check it out at www.setgame.com or click the link below. There is a great on-line tutorial to teach the family how to play. It includes practice rounds to help you learn. This site does a puzzle-a-day contest. Check it out! I just learned about it from another teacher this weekend and now I am hooked!!! There is a practice section to allow kids to test their knowledge. It is important to break a figure apart into a net in order to find the surface area, find the area of each piece and add them all up. To find volume, we find out the amount of cubes are in the bottom layer and multiply it by the number of layers (or the height). The formula for volume of a rectangular prism is V= l x w x h. Surface Area & Volume Site

Fractions, Decimals & Percents

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 100px; height: 76px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_rryNxWCWycE/Sb_6kK0KZ3I/AAAAAAAAAEU/VMnb91rVcwY/s200/FractionCake.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5314241584605849458" />
This is the site I used for my afterschool OAT Prep session today.
